Panopticon’s “Det hjemsøkte hjertet” is less a return to black metal than a deepening into atmosphere, narrative, and emotional nuance. Told through the reflections of a dying recluse, it captures the sorrow of watching the natural world erode beneath one’s feet. Folk elements are largely set aside in favour of orchestral textures and post-rock expanses, conjuring a sound as vivid – and as transient – as the autumn forests it mourns.
