Alex van Heerden, one of the leading new names on the cape jazz and ethnic scene of South Africa before his tragic death in a car accident early 2009, started to explore electronic music in 2000. Since then he travelled yearly to Sweden to collaborate with producers there, his main focus being the seemingly impossible task of combining the focused, detailed sound of Scandinavian minimal electronic music with the rich, organic, wild rhythms and textures of his native South Africa.
